As many of you know, Stacy passed away on May 1, 2003 after a 14 month battle with Leiomyo Sarcoma cancer. It was Stacy's unbelievable example of how to live life, ferociously fight for life, and to end life, that has gotten us through the days, weeks, months and years since her death. We miss her EVERY day! She left us the greatest gifts to remember her by, her 2 boys, Connor (14) and Cullen (almost 11). We know she is proud of the boys that they are and the men they will soon become.
Our first tournament was only 4 months after she passed away. Her husband, Mike planned the day at a golf course owned by a family friend in Lake City.... we had a great turnout without having much time to plan! Needless to say the tournament has grown so much! Stacy may not physically be with us at the tournament but she is definitely there in spirit. We love to spend the day remembering Stacy and telling those who didn't get to know Stacy, all about her. We truly look forward to it every year!
For the first 5 years we donated the proceeds from the tournament to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. They specialize in Leiomyo sarcoma. While, we know there is a long way to go in finding a cure for this type of cancer we realized that our donation could be more impactful elsewhere. And that Stacy would want to help other young mothers in fighting this battle. Mike worked with a woman who was diagnosed with breast cancer around the same time Stacy was diagnosed with her cancer. Her family relied heavily on her income and when she wasn't able to continue working, we decided this was our new calling. The money we raised would dramatically impact this family. So we donated the proceeds ($12,000!!!!) of the tournament last year to them!
